Low Energy House - Low Energy LED Lights
Light emitting diodes are most often used in standby lights on electrical equipment.
They are a new technology for energy saving because they produce more light per unit of electricity than the new
compact fluorescent lamps and have extremely long lifetimes – up to 100,000 hours
LED lights are small solid light bulbs that are extremely energy efficient. Until
recently they were limited to single bulb use in applications such as instrument panels, electronics
and pen lights. Improvements in manufacture have lowered their cost and expanded their application.
LED lights are now available in arrays which fit standard AC and DC light fittings, in
recessed light and track light applications.
LED Lights:
- last 10 times as long as the new compact fluorescents lamps
- last over a 100 times longer than traditional incandescent bulbs
- use a fraction of the wattage of incandescent bulbs
- save energy in maintenance and replacement costs
- do not have a filament and are not prone to damage
- do not produce heat build up
LED Lighting in Remote Areas
Because of their low energy requirement, LED lights are very useful for lighting
in remote locations where they can be used with small photovoltaic panels.
